What a VPN Actually Does

A VPN is a service that creates an encrypted tunnel between your device and a server operated by the VPN provider. Any data you send or receive passes through that tunnel, making it much harder for third parties — such as your internet service provider (ISP), a hacker on the same network, or a government agency monitoring traffic — to see what you're doing online.
